  • 1
Large ships: tender to the Marine TerminalTenders drop passengers at the Puerto Natales Marine Terminal (Terminal Marítimo) on the town waterfront. The Plaza de Armas is a flat 10–15 minute walk east along the Costanera.
  • 2
Expedition ships: Puerto Bories pierSmaller vessels may dock at Puerto Bories, about 5 km north of town. Taxis and cruise shuttle buses are available at the pier; the ride takes roughly 10 minutes.

Insider Tips

  • 🌬️
Wind is no joke. Patagonia routinely sees 80+ km/h gusts. Bring a windproof outer layer regardless of the forecast — you'll need it the moment you step outside.
  • 🚢
Book Torres del Paine through the ship. The 4-hour round-trip drive leaves little margin — a ship-sponsored tour guarantees the captain won't leave without you.
  • 🍽️
Eat the king crab (centolla). Magellanic king crab is among the freshest and cheapest you'll find anywhere. Look for it at Santolla restaurant near the plaza.
  • 🫐
Try a Calafate Sour. Local legend says anyone who eats the calafate berry is destined to return to Patagonia. A pisco sour made with calafate is the ideal experiment.
  • 💳
Cards widely accepted. Visa and Mastercard work in most restaurants and shops. Keep a little Chilean Peso cash for the artisan market and tips.
