Insider Tips

  • Don't sleep through the sail-in. The approach through Mahon's narrow harbor channel — past fortresses, colonial villas, and small islands — is one of the Mediterranean's great cruise arrivals. Set an alarm.
  • 🍋
Drink a Pomada. Menorca's unofficial cocktail: Xoriguer gin mixed with cloudy homemade lemonade. Get it at any harbor café or at the distillery itself, steps from the pier.
  • 🧀
Buy Mahón cheese to take home. The Mercat del Claustre (former monastery market) has excellent local cheese vendors — grab a soft fresh wheel or a hard aged block. Vacuum-packed travels well.
  • 🏖️
Beach day is very doable. Es Grau (~15 min taxi) and Punta Prima (~20 min) are the best bets for a half-day beach visit. Avoid the long-haul southern beaches like Cala Macarella — too far for a single-ship call.
  • 🕐
Plan shopping for the morning. Most Old Town shops close for siesta around 1:30–5:00 PM. Hit the Mercat del Claustre and boutiques early; restaurant lunch on the harbor works fine in the afternoon.
