Walk the harbor foreshore east from Honeysuckle past Queens Wharf, along the beach path to Nobby's Breakwall, then climb the headland to Fort Scratchley for harbor and ocean views.
From Strzelecki Lookout, follow the spectacular 450-metre clifftop Memorial Walk — including its 160-metre steel bridge lined with soldier silhouettes — above the Pacific, then descend to the Bogey Hole, an ocean pool hand-carved by convicts in 1819.

Shuttle is mandatory. The Channel Berth is inside a secure working port — you cannot walk to the city. Join the shuttle queue early on busy call days; lines can build up.

Card-only country. Australia is nearly cashless. Tap-to-pay works everywhere — cafes, taxis, light rail, ferry. You won't need AUD cash at all.

Australian sun is brutal. UV index regularly hits 11+ even in autumn/spring. Pack sunscreen (SPF50+), a hat, and water — you'll be outside most of the day.

Swim between the flags. Newcastle's beaches are patrolled by volunteer lifeguards. Red-and-yellow flags mark the safe swimming zone — always swim inside them; rips are real.

Hunter Valley needs a full day. It's about 1 hour each way from the city. Only attempt it if you have a late ship departure (6 PM or later). Book a tour in advance.
