Insider Tips

  • 🇨🇦
Currency: Canadian dollars. Cards are widely accepted in town, but bring a little CAD cash for the farmers' market or small vendors.
  • 🚗
No Uber/Lyft on the island. To reach the Cup and Saucer Trail, Bridal Veil Falls, or other sites beyond walking range, book through your ship or arrange a local tour in advance.
  • 🌉
Catch the Swing Bridge in action. It opens on the hour every hour (summer) for 15 minutes to let marine traffic through. Time your walk to see it — it's the island's signature moment.
  • 🫐
Try Hawberries. The island's signature fruit grows wild on limestone soil found almost nowhere else. Pick up Hawberry jelly, jam, or a craft ale — you won't find these at home.
  • 🧥
Layer up. Even in summer, the breeze off the North Channel can be brisk. Bring a light windbreaker and wear comfortable shoes if you plan to hike.
