Getting Ashore

Ships dock at Taipa Ferry Terminal on Taipa Island — you'll need transport to reach either the Historic Centre or the Cotai Strip.

Getting from Ship to City

  • 1
LRT (Monorail)Taipa Ferry Terminal station is a 5-minute walk from the berths. The Taipa Line connects to Cotai Strip casino resorts and Taipa Village. Fare ≈ 6 MOP.
  • 2
Free Casino ShuttlesThe major Cotai Strip casinos (Venetian, Londoner, Parisian, Galaxy) run free shuttle buses from the terminal. You do NOT need to be a hotel guest. Fastest way to reach the Strip.
  • 3
Taxi to Historic CentreTaxis are metered and inexpensive. Ask for 'Senado Square' (show the Chinese characters: 議事亭前地). Expect 10–20 min and 60–80 MOP. Drivers often speak only Cantonese.

💡 Pro move: HKD is accepted everywhere at roughly 1:1 to MOP. Avoid accumulating MOP change — it's hard to exchange outside Macau.

Piers & Tendering by Cruise Line

Small and mid-sized luxury ships (Silversea, Seabourn, Azamara, Viking) dock directly at Taipa Ferry Terminal; most mega-ships base in Hong Kong and use the high-speed ferry.

Macau's historic centre is compact and walkable once you're there, but the contrasts — baroque ruins to billion-dollar casino lobbies — demand a full day.

Insider Tips

  • 💱
HKD works everywhere at a near 1:1 rate with Macau Patacas. Use it up before leaving — MOP is nearly worthless to exchange outside Macau.
  • 🚌
Free casino shuttles run from Taipa Ferry Terminal to all major Cotai Strip resorts. You don't need to stay there — just board and explore.
  • 🥚
Egg tart protocol: Lord Stow's Bakery originated the Macanese style. Get them warm. The Venetian outlet is convenient; the original is in Coloane Village if you venture south.
  • 📋
No China visa needed for most Western nationalities — Macau has its own immigration rules separate from mainland China.
  • 🚖
Show your destination in Chinese — most taxi drivers don't speak English. Screenshot '議事亭前地' for Senado Square or use Google Maps with Chinese characters.
