Temple of Kom Ombo
The only double temple in Egypt, built by Ptolemaic pharaohs between 180–47 BC. The southern half honours Sobek (crocodile god), the northern half Haroeris (Horus the Elder). Symmetrical sanctuaries, twin entrances, and intricate reliefs covering every wall.

Housed inside the temple complex and included with your entry ticket. Dozens of mummified crocodiles — the largest over 4 m long — were recovered from ancient sacred pools and offered to Sobek. A compact, air-conditioned museum taking about 15–20 minutes.

Inside the temple precinct, spot the ancient Nilometer — a stone-lined well priests used to measure the Nile flood and calculate annual taxes. On the rear temple wall, remarkable reliefs depict what appear to be surgical instruments: scalpels, forceps, bone saws, and birthing chairs from over 2,000 years ago.

Many ships dock in the late afternoon. Climb to the upper temple terrace for a free, panoramic view of the Nile and west-bank sugarcane fields at golden hour. One of the best sunsets on any Egypt itinerary.

Promenade to Temple Loop

Walk off the gangway, cross the promenade, and follow the paved incline up to the temple entrance. Inside, loop through the double sanctuaries, visit the Crocodile Museum, and descend via the souk back to the ship. The full circuit takes 1–2 hours.
