Belize Barrier Reef Snorkel
The world's second-longest barrier reef runs parallel to the coast offshore. Guided snorkel tours boat out to coral gardens (popular sites like the Silk Cayes are roughly an hour away) teeming with tropical fish, rays, and nurse sharks. Glass-bottom boat options available for non-swimmers.

Take the island ferry to Placencia Village on the mainland peninsula. Walk the famous narrow sidewalk (reportedly one of the narrowest main streets in the world), browse local craft shops, grab a Belikin beer at a seaside bar, and catch the ferry back.

Arrive at the pool early for prime lounge chairs near the swim-up bar. By mid-morning it fills up fast. The far end of the beach is usually quieter.

Book the Placencia ferry early. Capacity is limited. Reserve at the ship's shore excursions desk the night before or first thing in the morning.

Pack reef-safe sunscreen. Belize's marine protected areas discourage and often ban sunscreens with oxybenzone/octinoxate to protect the Barrier Reef. Choose mineral (zinc/titanium) sunscreen to be safe — pack accordingly.

Bring bug spray for mainland excursions. The island itself is breezy and relatively bug-free, but jungle and river tours will have mosquitoes. DEET or picaridin works best.
