Halong Bay Day Junk Cruise
The classic: board a traditional wooden junk for a half-day or full-day sail through the karst islands. Stops typically include Sung Sot Cave and Titop Island with a beach swim.
Paddle through the low arch of Luon Cave into a hidden lagoon ringed by karst cliffs. Calm water, wildlife, and near-silence — the most intimate way to experience the bay.
Climb 400+ steps to the summit of Titop Island for panoramic views of the bay, then cool off on the crescent beach below. Named after Soviet cosmonaut Gherman Titov, who visited in 1962.
One of Halong Bay's largest and most dramatic caves — two vast chambers filled with stalactites and stalagmites lit in color. Nearly every bay cruise includes a stop here.
Row through a traditional floating village where families live year-round on the water, fishing with bamboo traps. One of the last inhabited villages in the bay.
For ships with long port calls, some operators run Hanoi excursions (~165 km each way). Hoan Kiem Lake, the Old Quarter, and Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum are highlights. Transit is long — commit only if you have 10+ hours.

Walk the beachside promenade of Bai Chay from near Sun Port to Bai Chay Beach. Lined with souvenir shops, seafood restaurants, and bay views. Good for grabbing a coffee or a bowl of bún before your cruise.
The striking black-glass Quang Ninh Museum (nicknamed the "Black Pearl," its facade evoking the region's coal) covers the bay's geology, history, and culture. Excellent exhibits in English. Allow 1-1.5 hours. Worth visiting if your cruise returns early.

Book your bay cruise early. Ship-organized excursions fill fast. Independent day junks from Sun Port are plentiful but quality varies — look for operators with life jackets and licensed guides.
