Insider Tips

  • 🚋
Use the tram for Landschaftspark. It's 7 km from the pier — too far to walk. Tram 903 from Rathaus takes ~20 min and costs ~€3 each way. Buy tickets at the platform machine.
  • 🌭
Eat Currywurst at a local stand. The Ruhr Valley's iconic street food — sliced pork sausage with spiced curry-ketchup. Pair it with Pommes Schranke (fries with mayo AND ketchup). Look for it near the Inner Harbor.
  • 🍺
Try König Pilsener. Duisburg's local brew since 1858 (König-Brauerei, in the Beeck district). Order it at any brewpub in town — the Webster Brauhaus on Dellplatz is a short walk from the Innenhafen.
  • 🔐
Sunday: no shopping. German law closes retail stores on Sundays, but museums, Landschaftspark, the zoo, and restaurants are all open.
  • 💶
Carry some cash. Cards are widely accepted in restaurants and museums, but street food vendors, tram ticket machines, and small kiosks prefer cash.
