Insider Tips

  • 🎵
Book Motown Museum in advance. Tours are timed, small-group, and sell out days ahead — especially during cruise season. Buy tickets at motownmuseum.org before your ship arrives.
  • 🌡️
Great Lakes weather swings fast. Summer can hit 90°F and humid, or turn cool with lake wind. Pack a light layer even in July; the Riverwalk breeze can surprise you.
  • 🌎
You look south into Canada. The Detroit River bends such that Windsor, Ontario is directly south of downtown. A fun geography quirk worth mentioning to fellow passengers.
  • 🚃
QLine for Midtown. The streetcar runs north on Woodward Ave from near Hart Plaza to the DIA and Motown Museum. Cheap and easy — no rideshare needed for Midtown.
  • 🌭
Do the Coney rivalry. Lafayette Coney Island and American Coney Island sit side by side on Michigan Ave — order one from each (cash accepted) and settle the debate yourself. A quintessential Detroit experience.
