History
UNESCO Historic Centre of Lima
The Plaza de Armas, Lima Cathedral (with Francisco Pizarro's tomb), and the San Francisco Monastery with its haunting underground catacombs are the heart of colonial Lima. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and the city's most visited district.
One of South America's finest museums, housed in an 18th-century viceregal mansion. Over 40,000 pre-Columbian artifacts spanning 5,000 years of Peruvian history — including the famous erotic pottery gallery. The garden café is a great lunch stop.
Miraflores offers clifftop Malecón parks with sweeping Pacific views, the ancient Huaca Pucllana pyramid rising from the modern city, and upscale restaurants. Bohemian Barranco, just south, is full of colonial mansions, street art, and artisan galleries.

Built in 1747 to defend against pirate raids, the star-shaped Fortress of Real Felipe now houses the Army Museum with panoramic port views. Nearby Callao Monumental is a revitalized old port district packed with murals, galleries, and creative spaces.
A short yacht trip from Callao to the Palomino Islands lets you observe seabirds and a large sea lion colony, with the option to swim alongside them in open water. One of the more unusual wildlife experiences on any South America cruise.

The port area itself isn't walkable, but Miraflores and Barranco are both flat, pleasant, and easy to explore on foot once you've arrived by taxi or shuttle.
Miraflores Cliff Walk

From Larcomar shopping centre, stroll north along the Malecón de Miraflores clifftop promenade past Parque del Amor and Parque Kennedy. The Pacific views are excellent and the path is wide and safe. Dip into Larcomar for coffee with an ocean view.
Wander from the Puente de los Suspiros (Bridge of Sighs) down to Bajada de Baños, passing colonial-era mansions, street murals, and artisan shops. Finish with ceviche at one of the many seafood spots on Calle Grau.
Start at Plaza Mayor (Plaza de Armas), take in the Government Palace (watch the changing of the guard at noon), Lima Cathedral, and the Archbishop's Palace. Walk one block to the Convent of San Francisco, then stroll along Jirón de la Unión pedestrian street back to the plaza.
From Parque Municipal de Barranco wander down to the iconic Puente de los Suspiros, peek into the ravine (La Bajada de los Baños), and explore the colourful streets lined with galleries and cafés. The MATE (Mario Testino) photography museum is worth a quick stop.

Don't walk outside the port gates. The immediate surroundings of Muelle Norte are industrial and not safe for independent wandering. Use Uber, a pre-arranged taxi hailed through the terminal desk or your ship, or a reputable app (Cabify, inDrive) — street taxis in Callao carry a higher risk of overcharging or worse.

Both Soles and USD are widely accepted across Lima's tourist districts, but the Peruvian Sol (PEN) gets better value than paying in USD everywhere. Use GlobalNet ATMs (inside the port terminal or in Miraflores) for the best rates; street money changers (green jackets) are common but count carefully.

Lima traffic is real. Allow 45–60 min each way from the port to the Historic Centre, and slightly less to Miraflores. Build a buffer before your all-aboard — Lima can eat time without warning.

Eat ceviche. Lima is the ceviche capital of the world and lunch is the best time to eat it. Look for a cevichería in Miraflores or Barranco with a packed local crowd — avoid the airport.

Don't be fooled by coastal fog (garúa). Lima's coast is often overcast, especially June–November, with mild temperatures (18–24 °C / 65–75 °F) year-round, but UV levels remain high. Pack a light layer and wear sunscreen and sunglasses even when it looks dull.

Book ahead. The San Francisco Catacombs and Larco Museum are the two most popular ticketed sights in the city — reserve online before your cruise since capacity is limited. Also keep valuables low-profile in crowded areas of the Historic Centre; use a crossbody bag and stay aware in busy plazas.
