Horizontal Falls Zodiac Ride
The iconic highlight of the Kimberley: powerful tidal currents surge through two narrow sandstone gorges in Talbot Bay, creating a horizontal waterfall effect. Your Zodiac drives through the rapids — extraordinary and completely unique to this region.
As the tide drops, this 400 km² inshore reef appears to rise dramatically from the sea, water cascading off the edges and exposing rich coral gardens, sea turtles, and sea eagles fishing from above.
Guided walk to Raft Point reveals ancient Gwion (Bradshaw) rock art figures estimated to be thousands of years old, painted on ancient sandstone overhangs above the Kimberley coastline.
Cruise the channels and bays in expedition Zodiacs looking for saltwater crocodiles basking on rocks, sea eagles, dolphins, dugongs, and — in season (July–October) — humpback whales in the surrounding waters.
One of Australia's most extraordinary beaches: blinding white silica sand contrasting deep red sandstone cliffs and turquoise water. A rare chance to swim and relax in total seclusion.
Some expedition ships carry a helicopter onboard (notably True North). A scenic flight unlocks aerial perspectives of the tidal flats, gorges, and island chains that no Zodiac can match.
Walking opportunities are limited and remote — excursions are guide-led Zodiac landings rather than town walks.
Raft Point Lookout Walk

A short but steep climb from the Zodiac landing at Raft Point leads to rock art overhangs and sweeping views over Doubtful Bay. Led by the ship's expedition guides.
From the Zodiac landing, walk the length of the white silica beach, rounding the headland for views of the red sandstone cliffs rising straight from the sea.

Visit in the dry season (May–Sep) — the wet season brings cyclones, extreme heat, and most operators cease running. All cruises in this region operate May–September only.

Bring serious insect repellent — sandflies and mosquitoes can be severe at landing sites, especially in sheltered bays and near freshwater.

Do not enter the water unsupervised — saltwater crocodiles are present throughout the archipelago. Only swim at designated beaches confirmed safe by expedition guides.
