Watch the trafficBali's roads are notoriously congested, especially around Kuta and Seminyak. Ubud is 1.5–2 hrs each way in normal traffic. Factor transit time into every plan — far sights like Tanah Lot or Ubud make for a long, full day.

Return on timeAllow at least 90 minutes to return to the ship from Ubud or Uluwatu in afternoon traffic. Missing ship departure in Bali is an expensive problem — pad your schedule.

All cruise ships dock at Benoa harbour — there is no tendering, but the port area has no walkable attractions and all sights require a taxi or driver.

Uluwatu Temple & Kecak Fire Dance
The crown jewel of a Bali port day. Uluwatu Temple clings to a 70-metre sea cliff on the Bukit Peninsula, about 45 minutes from the pier. The evening Kecak fire dance at sunset (starts ~18:00) is one of the most dramatic performances in Southeast Asia — time your visit to catch it if your ship stays late.
Bali's cultural heart — the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, the bustling Ubud Art Market, Tegallalang rice terraces, and craft villages producing silver, wood, and batik. Allow a full day; Ubud is 1.5–2 hrs from the pier each way.
One of Bali's most photographed sights — a Hindu sea temple perched on a rocky islet offshore, accessible on foot at low tide. About 1.5 hrs northwest of the pier; best at low tide or late afternoon light.
A vast hilltop cultural park on the Bukit Peninsula — home to a towering 121-metre statue of Vishnu astride Garuda, Balinese dance performances, and sweeping views over south Bali. Only 20 minutes from the port.
Nusa Dua's manicured resort beach is 15 minutes from the port — an easy half-day for sun and sand. Seminyak is livelier, with beach clubs and cafés, though traffic through Kuta can slow the drive.
A circuit through specialist craft villages: Celuk (gold and silver), Mas (wood carving), Batuan (traditional painting), and Ubud's market. A great half-day cultural loop with stops to watch artisans at work.
The port area has nothing walkable — all of Bali's highlights are a drive away, but here are two options once you reach a destination.
Ubud town & Monkey Forest loop

From the Ubud Art Market, walk south through the village to the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, then loop back through the Monkey Forest Road restaurants and craft shops. The whole route is flat and rewarding.
Walk the stepped paths through the iconic Tegallalang terraces north of Ubud — lush, photogenic, and a world away from the beach crowds. Entrance fee applies.

Hire a driver, not just a taxi. A private car and driver for the full day (IDR 450,000–600,000 / ~USD 28–38) gives you flexibility and a local guide — far better value than metered taxis for multiple stops.

Traffic is the enemy of time. South Bali roads can gridlock, especially mid-morning and afternoon. Uluwatu and Nusa Dua are close; Ubud and Tanah Lot are ambitious in a single day — choose one or the other.

Cover up for temples. Sarongs and sashes are required at Uluwatu, Tanah Lot, and other temples — most provide loaners at the gate, but bringing your own is faster.

Carry cash in Rupiah. Small warungs, craft stalls, and temple entry fees are cash-only. ATMs are available in Kuta and Seminyak; airport-style exchange counters at the terminal offer poor rates.

Watch the monkeys at Uluwatu. The macaques are notorious thieves — sunglasses, phones, and hats are fair game. Keep valuables tucked away and do not feed them.

Check your all-aboard time before booking the Kecak dance. The sunset performance at Uluwatu starts around 18:00 and runs ~1 hour — only practical if your ship departs late evening.

Transport options from the pier — taxis, shuttles, transit passes, and whether ride-share apps work here.
🚗 Ride-share: ✅ Grab, GojekGrab and Gojek are available but cannot pick up inside the terminal. Walk ~10–15 min outside the harbor gate to request a ride. Uber does not operate in Indonesia.

Kura-Kura Bus connects Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Sanur, Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, and Ubud. Does not depart from the cruise pier directly — arrange transfer to a Kura-Kura stop.

Metered and negotiated taxis wait at the cruise terminal. Agree on a fare before departing — typical rates are Kuta/Seminyak ~$17–19, Ubud ~$25. Prices can be higher than app-based alternatives.

App-based rides are cheaper than port taxis but cannot pick up inside the terminal. Walk ~10–15 minutes outside the harbor gate, then book in-app. Grab may require cash at this location.
