Hike to the 1,467 m summit of Guadeloupe's active volcano through mossy rainforest and sulfurous fumarole fields. The trail starts from Les Bains Jaunes in Saint-Claude. Guided tours are strongly recommended — weather changes fast.
Three spectacular waterfalls inside Guadeloupe National Park. The 110 m second fall is the most accessible via a paved footpath (~45 min round trip). The first fall requires a longer forest hike.
Jacques Cousteau called the Ilets Pigeon off Malendure Beach one of the world's best diving sites. This roughly 400-hectare protected reserve teems with sea turtles, colorful coral, and over 160 species. Glass-bottom boats available for non-divers.

From the cruise pier, walk south along the waterfront to Fort Delgrès, then loop through the historic center via the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Guadeloupe and Place du Champ d'Arbaud before returning along Rue du Docteur Cabre.
A short, well-marked jungle path off the Route de la Traversée leads to this lovely waterfall with a swimming hole — an easy reward for non-hikers. About 25 minutes from the pier by car.

Weather is unpredictable on the volcano. La Soufrière summit is often shrouded in cloud by midday — start hikes early and book a guide.

Euros only — no XCD here. ATMs are available in Basse-Terre city. Cards accepted at restaurants and larger shops but carry some cash for markets and taxis.

Negotiate taxi fares before you go. There are no meters — agree on the price upfront. Half-day island tours with a taxi-guide run around €80–€120 per car.

Shops close midday and on Sundays. Most stores shut 12:00–14:00 and all day Sunday. Rum distilleries (including Bologne) are also typically closed Sundays.
