Insider Tips

  • 🚌
Shuttle first, always. You cannot walk out of the port — take the complimentary cruise-line shuttle to downtown. It drops near Arab Revolt Square where taxis and tour buses wait.
  • Petra is a full day. The drive is 2 hours each way. If your ship departs before 19:00, a Petra trip is tight — choose Wadi Rum (1 hr away) or a local half-day instead.
  • 💵
Currency is Jordanian Dinars (JOD). ATMs are available in the city centre. USD is sometimes accepted but at poor rates. Petra entrance is ~JOD 50 (~$70) per person.
  • ☀️
It gets very hot. Summer temps exceed 40°C (104°F). Start excursions early, carry a litre of water, and wear a hat. Wadi Rum has zero shade.
  • 🤿
Stay local for snorkeling. Aqaba's South Beach has outstanding reefs at shallow depths — you don't need to leave the city for world-class marine life. Day passes at Berenice Beach Club run ~JOD 15-25.
