Insider Tips

  • ⚠️
Travel advisory: The U.S. State Dept. rates Guerrero state as Level 4 (Do Not Travel). Cruise passengers are generally safe in the immediate tourist zone and on ship excursions — but stay aware, use authorized taxis, and don't wander into unfamiliar neighborhoods.
  • 💵
Cash is king: Carry Mexican pesos for taxis, market stalls, and small restaurants. USD accepted in most tourist spots but at poor rates. ATMs in the port area offer better exchange than ship currency counters.
  • 🤿
Taxis: always fix the fare first. Taxis outside the terminal are plentiful but unmetered — agree on a price before you get in. Expect 50-100 MXN for short hops, more for Condesa beach or Coyuca.
  • Cliff divers: go early. The 1 PM show at La Quebrada fits most cruise schedules. Evening shows (around 7 and 9 PM) are more atmospheric but typically after departure. You can watch for free from the public viewpoint, or pay for a table at La Perla restaurant above.
  • 🌧️
Cruise season weather: November–April is dry and warm (25–32°C). Avoid the September–October rainy season if possible — that's also hurricane season. Hurricane Otis hit in October 2023 and recovery is ongoing.

🚕 Taxi

$3–8 USD

Taxis are plentiful at the port. Always negotiate and agree on the fare before you get in — no meters are used. Short city-center trips run ~$3–5 USD; farther zones like Playa Condesa ~$5–8 USD.

🚌 Public Bus (Colectivo)

~$0.30 USD

Local buses run along La Costera (the main coastal boulevard) and are very cheap at around 5 MXN per ride. Not ideal with luggage but great for short hops along the bay.

🎫 Guided City Tour

$65–130 USD/person

Cruise-specific shore excursions depart from the terminal and cover top highlights: the La Quebrada cliff divers, Chapel of Peace, and Acapulco Bay. Prices vary by duration (4–6 hrs) and group size.
