Insider Tips

  • 💳
Go cashless: Norway is one of the world's most cashless societies. Every cafe, bus, museum, and market stall accepts Visa/Mastercard — you genuinely don't need NOK cash.
  • 🌧️
Layer up: Even in summer, coastal Vestfold shifts quickly from sunshine to drizzle. Pack a light waterproof jacket — you won't regret it.
  • 🦸
Thor Heyerdahl connection: The explorer's childhood home is at Steingata 7 (private, exterior only). His statue at Tollerodden park is the best photo stop and a short flat walk from the pier.
  • 💧
Try Farris water: Norway's only natural mineral spring is bottled right here. Pick up a bottle at any shop — it's been an icon since 1907 and the locals are rightly proud of it.
  • 🏛️
Sunday closures: Most shops close on Sundays in Norway. Museums, restaurants, Farris Bad, and Bøkeskogen are open — retail stores generally are not.
