The smallest of the Small Isles, Muck is a working croft island with barely 30 residents, turquoise bays, Highland ponies, and big skies — a genuine off-grid Hebridean escape only expedition ships can reach.
There is no cruise pier — ships anchor offshore and use tenders or Zodiacs to land at the Port Mòr slipway.
💡 Pro move: Wear waterproof shoes and bring layers — Hebridean weather changes fast. Gates should be closed after you pass through farmland.
Isle of Muck has no deepwater pier; all cruise calls are by tender to the Port Mòr slipway.
| Cruise Line | Typical Berth / Arrival | Dock or Tender |

Muck is a walk-it-yourself island — formal excursions are rare, but the rewards for independent explorers are exceptional.
Climb Muck's highest point (137 m / 449 ft) for 360° views of Eigg, Rum, Canna, Skye, and the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. A clear day makes this one of the finest viewpoints in the Hebrides.
Book Hebrides walking tours →Grey seals haul out on the rocks near Port Mòr. Harbour porpoises, minke whales, and basking sharks frequent the surrounding waters in summer. Golden eagles and white-tailed eagles are spotted regularly.
Find Hebrides wildlife cruises →A crescent of white shell sand with improbably turquoise water on the north coast. Flat walk along the island's main road — easily the most surprising beach in the Small Isles.
Explore Hebrides beach tours →The Community Hall near the pier often hosts a small display of island photos and genealogy records. The adjacent craft shop ('The Green Shed') sells hand-knitted rugs from Muck wool, postcards, and local books.
Find Scottish island tours →One paved road and several grassy tracks cover the whole island — most visitors can see everything in a half-day on foot.
Follow the single paved road north from the slipway to the island's finest beach. Pass Highland ponies in the fields and look for seals along the rocky foreshore.
🗺️ See full route in Maps →From Port Mòr, take the track west then climb the grassy slopes of Beinn Airein. Views from the top encompass the entire Small Isles chain and the Scottish mainland on clear days. Return via the same route or dip south past Camas Mòr bay.
