Insider Tips

  • 🚂
Train timing is everything. The last fast train back from Como San Giovanni to Milan leaves around 22:00, but if your ship departs by 18:00 plan to leave Como no later than 14:30–15:00.
  • Buy ferry tickets at the terminal. Navigazione Laghi ferries depart from Piazza Cavour — single tickets to Bellagio cost around €6-8 each way. The fast hydrofoil is worth the small premium.
  • 💶
Cash useful, cards fine. Most restaurants and shops accept Visa/Mastercard, but smaller boat tours and market stalls prefer cash. ATMs are plentiful in the town centre.
  • 🌦️
Afternoon thunderstorms are common May–September. The lake acts as a heat sink and clouds build quickly — pack a light rain jacket and check the forecast before committing to the funicular.
  • 👟
Como city is very walkable, but Bellagio and other lakeside villages have steep cobbled lanes. Comfortable flat-soled shoes are a must.
